In this workshop we will talk about using small home generators during power outages. We will focus on small generators vs. large whole house systems. We will consider how much you can power with these kinds of generators, how much fuel they will use, and how to plan your consumption so you can reduce the power you need and thus reduce the gasoline/propane you need. We’ll also talk about issues relating to safe usage of these generators. In the battery portion, we will explain what battery sizing means and how that translates into the amount of use you can get out of a battery. Our focus will be on typical car batteries, deep cycle marine batteries, and newer technology such as LiFePro4. While we won’t specifically talk about battery systems such as those offered by Tesla, the concepts we will discuss are directly applicable to even those systems.
