Make Ready In The New Year
It’s funny how the notions of being self sufficient, capable, resourceful and prepared to be of service to self, family and community have been stigmatized socially as “prepping” or fringe in some way. In the new year might we explore “Readiness” in another light and context? Instead of seeing it and experiencing it as preparing for the worst out of fear and apprehension, might we not celebrate the pursuit as a daily discipline and practice around preparing to live our best?
There are far few greater rewards than having the opportunity to help someone. Whether that is having supplies on hand in a vehicle stuck on I-95 to help fellow trapped motorists or perhaps a neighbor or entire community that just lost their homes to fire. The capacity to assist does not start with the purchase of gear, instead it begins with a decision, a decision to live proactively ready to be capable of service. We first must be able to help ourselves, then our families and our communities. Communities are as resilient as the individuals within them.
We invite you in this new year to adventure with us, to learn from our local first responders, military veterans and humanitarians about what readiness is truly all about. Come cultivate the capacity to remain calm when most panic and to thrive on the opportunity to be an asset when most are liabilities due to new formed skills and appropriate tools acquired. “The more you know the less you need, and while the tools of the trade from medical and vehicle kits to functional layers for the weather are important, far more critical are the skills and mindset to #livecapable.
